Haleakala Solar

Haleakala Solar project is a 40 MWac solar photovoltaic project that includes storage, which allows for solar energy to be stored during the data and used when it’s needed at night.

The project will be located on 2,200 acres of private land located mauka of the Kihei, Maui on land that is owned by Haleakala Ranch, a prominent agricultural operation on Maui, and will be leased to the project company for the life of the project. Clearway intends to be the long-term owner and operator of the project.

Solar energy is a quiet, emission-free, and economy-stimulating addition to any community. Once complete, the project will generate clean, local power.

The project will create minimal traffic during the 12-month construction period and no traffic during the 35-year operations term. The project will undergo a Special Use Permit approval and public hearing with the County. Extensive community outreach will be conducted through the construction of the project.

Haleakala Solar Project Interconnection

Haleakala Solar will interconnect to a new switchyard to be constructed on site, adjacent to the project-owned substation. Designed in accordance with MECO requirements, the existing 69-Kkv Kihei-Wailea circuit will terminate at the new switchyard via a newly constructed 1.3-mile long overhead extension, that would span the Piilani Highway.
